“Cappuccino” has become a global word. The skylines of our great cities are becoming copies of each other. Souvenirs from anywhere in the world turn out to be mostly “made in China”. Instead of travelling to London in order to discover what make the English “English”, we – a group of 26 students from the Fachklasse Grafik Luzern – went out in search of traces of British culture in Switzerland. The resulting and hugely diverse 52 reportages were brought together by each student in an editorial book concept. It was important to me that the character of searching and discovering Britain in Switzerland is noticeable throughout my layout. My concept combines various forms of reading and discovering a book. While reading, the book should be turned, tilted, held away and held very close, in short: The book shouldn’t just be read, it should be discovered. It was exciting to experiment with the boundaries between searching and discovering, yet still creating a book that is pleasant and comfortable to read.
